We've received several emails in the past few days from parents and
campers who have questions about how the current California wildfires
might affect Bible Camp. The short answer is that camp is not
badly affected and will be going on as planned.
As you know, there are many wildfires currently burning in California
and the air is smoky over much of the state. The area where Bible camp
is being held (Capital Mountain Camp near Weimar, California) is no
exception. We contacted Todd, the manager at Capital Mountain, and he
tells us that the air at camp is "a little smoky, not too bad," and
that the weather is forecasted to cool off toward the end of the week.
So, depending on where you live, you may find the air at camp either
more or less smoky than at home.
There are no fires in the immediate camp area. The closest fire is the
American River Complex Fire, about 40 miles northeast of Weimar. There
is another smaller fire about 60 miles from camp, the Yuba River
Complex Fire. As I understand it, most of the smoke that's currently
in the Sacramento area is coming from another more distant fire, to the
north in Butte County.
If you are interested, you can see an interactive map showing all the
significant California fires at the Office of Emergency Services web site:
